Mama and Papa ‘off duty’ for the first time

Yesterday was the first time I had spent more than the length of my long runs away from Arlo - and the first time Martyn and I had spent time together just the 2 of us - since October!

I am well aware this is not a cystic fibrosis parenting issue at all! This is a pandemic parenting issue!

But yesterday felt like a big deal to us because it was also the first time EVER that someone else would be doing Arlo’s afternoon physio and giving him his afternoon and evening meds without me or Martyn there to support them.

This may sound trivial but to us it was a pivotal moment in boosting our confidence about leaving Arlo with others - we have been so in control of his day to day care since his diagnosis that I had almost convinced myself that only Martyn or I could do it! Which is ridiculous!

Not only are my parents (Arlo’s Lolly and Pops) more than capable of caring for Arlo for the afternoon, it’s so important for all mamas and papas out there - CF or otherwise - to get some time alone together.

And my god was it good to get some fresh air and some quality time together💕We have been very lucky and very good to make time for ourselves over the last 6 months but Arlo has always been in the other room sleeping or playing👶

Also Lolly and Pops totally smashed it so I think we’ll be calling on them again soon😜Maybe they did too well!😆

Arlo’s Army: We Won’t Stop Until CF Does

There’s no cure for CF yet. Even with groundbreaking new treatments, daily life for people with CF remains a heavy burden and many aren't eligible for these new drugs. That's why we're raising money. To fund cutting-edge research. To support families like ours. To keep pushing until CF stands for Cured Forever.

CF affects over 11,000 people in the UK — and more than 100,000 globally. It impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, turning mucus thick and sticky, and making everyday life a battle for breath.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is leading the charge to change this. They fund game-changing science, support families, and fight for better treatments, care, and — one day — a cure.

Join Arlo’s Army today.

Stand with us. Donate. Share. Fight for a future where no child has to grow up fighting CF.
