(Warning! Hugely non CF personal one again!) As I did an open letter to THAT (awful) midwife, it only feels right on #internationaldayofthemidwife to do an open letter to the (incredible) midwives who WERE there for us šŸ’•

To all the incredible midwives that brought our little man into this world;

To the midwife who greeted us with a calm smile at 3am when my waters had broken at 36 weeks and reassured us it was all okay.ā˜ŗļø

To the midwife who kept me comfortable as my labour progressed whilst I was alone on the ward when Martyn wasn’t yet allowed to join us. THANK YOU for finding me a space to move around with a gym ball away from the HG mamas throwing up šŸ™ˆ And THANK YOU for finding me a bath to get in for a couple of hours šŸ™

To the midwife who just let me and my body get on with it in the birthing suite. Thank you for reading me so well and knowing that’s what we needed - and you were right, I didn’t need to be told when to push!🤣

To the group of midwives that collectively made us feel safe after our little man’s delivery and when he was taken to NICU for a few minutes to check everything was as it should be.šŸ’•

To the ā€˜mother hen’ midwife who mentored me at the start of our breastfeeding journey for the 3 days we stayed in hospital after Arlo was born. I’d have been lost without you and you are the reason I am still breastfeeding 9 months later. All that colostrum harvesting paid off!šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

To the midwife who told me to trust my gut and keep following Arlo’s lead with the breastfeeding at home - even when unbeknownst to us his CF was slowing the weight gain. You 100% saved us as we would have doubted ourselves and reached for the formula without your compassionate words.šŸ™Œ

And last but not at ALL least, thank you to the midwife who was not my midwife but who is one of my best friends who is an INCREDIBLE midwife to some lucky ladies in Scotland. Thank you for answering my silly questions. For listening to me when I cried because of THAT (awful) midwife. And for giving me the courage to go on. 😘

Midwifery is an art - not a science - and whilst we may have had the misfortune to come across one nasty one - the majority are super human goddesses that bring the most precious little people into our lives.šŸ¦øā€ā™€ļø

THANK YOU šŸ’•šŸ’•šŸ’•

CF Mama Doin' A Runner for the CF Trust UK

In January, I set myself the challenge to run the distance from Lands End to John O'Groats (1,083.8 miles) to raise money for the CF Trust UK - a charity that supports families with CF, assists with pivotal research and drug developments, and helps to raise awareness of the condition. If you would like to make a donation please click the button.

Thank you x
