Gaining confidence getting out and about with a CF baby

Something occurred to me today as we made our first successful venture to the park to the swings! (We did try last weekend but my CF mama anxiety got the best of me when we saw how busy it was 🙈)

I realised I have no idea how to be a mother in any scenario other than lockdown. Let alone how to be a mother to a CF baby in the ‘real’ world!

Because of Arlo’s CF and all the UK localised/national lockdowns we have pretty much been housebound since last November/December - I think Arlo and I have made 3 trips in the car since Christmas (twice to my parents house and once to the hospital)!

But lockdown is finally lifting and it’s got me like...How do you safely go out with a CF baby when the world is open for you to go out and enjoy it?!

Right now going to the swings or for a coffee seems like a big thing!🙈

But actually today was totally awesome☺️

And Arlo had THE BEST time!💙

Obviously this trip was pretty low key as it only really required a normal baby bag and lots of antibacterial wipes. But it’s given me confidence and made me excited at the prospect of taking more trips and going on more adventures - even if it means packing all of Arlo’s meds in a coolbox, his physio equipment in a sealed container and travelling with the whole CF caboodle.🙏 CF mustn’t stop us!💪

Arlo’s Army: We Won’t Stop Until CF Does

There’s no cure for CF yet. Even with groundbreaking new treatments, daily life for people with CF remains a heavy burden and many aren't eligible for these new drugs. That's why we're raising money. To fund cutting-edge research. To support families like ours. To keep pushing until CF stands for Cured Forever.

CF affects over 11,000 people in the UK — and more than 100,000 globally. It impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, turning mucus thick and sticky, and making everyday life a battle for breath.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is leading the charge to change this. They fund game-changing science, support families, and fight for better treatments, care, and — one day — a cure.

Join Arlo’s Army today.

Stand with us. Donate. Share. Fight for a future where no child has to grow up fighting CF.
