A serious case of ‘the Monday morning’

Today Arlo’s morning medication and treatments took 1 hr and 20 mins, if you include prep time and clean up. Something that would normally take an hour for us - tops!

He just wasn’t really feeling it - he’s a toddler and he’s allowed to have days where he doesn’t want to take something at 7am, or he doesn’t want to do his PEP, or his nebuliser…

Oh wait, except he can’t! Because he needs those things to stay well. 🥴

So we have to find something that all toddler parents are familiar with - we have to find a way to make him ‘decide’ he actually does want to do those things.

And it can be a rollercoaster - especially on a Monday!

Honestly, us CF parents are so goddam resourceful I feel like surely this is making me the best problem solver in the world! Thinking on our feet and endlessly finding creative ways to make him feel like he is the one in control. Like he is choosing to take his Orkambi, like he is choosing to casually eat a snack with 10g(!) of fat in it at 7am, like he is choosing to do 10 minutes of prep with coughing on demand every 2 minutes, like he is choosing to do his nebuliser…

This can double the time it takes to get it all done.

But we get it done.

Some days it does leave me feeling a bit ‘Monday morning’-y - for instance today I waved him off to nursery, mourning the fact that we had not done a single ‘non-CF thing’.

But we get it done.

Happy Monday my fellow parents! Getting s*** done!

NB - He did everything without a single complaint this evening! Legend. The yo-yo-ing of a toddler! 🙈🤷‍♀️🙈

Arlo’s Army: We Won’t Stop Until CF Does

There’s no cure for CF yet. Even with groundbreaking new treatments, daily life for people with CF remains a heavy burden and many aren't eligible for these new drugs. That's why we're raising money. To fund cutting-edge research. To support families like ours. To keep pushing until CF stands for Cured Forever.

CF affects over 11,000 people in the UK — and more than 100,000 globally. It impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, turning mucus thick and sticky, and making everyday life a battle for breath.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is leading the charge to change this. They fund game-changing science, support families, and fight for better treatments, care, and — one day — a cure.

Join Arlo’s Army today.

Stand with us. Donate. Share. Fight for a future where no child has to grow up fighting CF.
