A lunchtime spread … CF style 💊💛☺️

Seen a few rather scrummy looking Jubilee lunchtime spreads shared on Insta and was inspired to share ours. 😆

The creon (on the spoon) is a digestive enzyme that we give to help Arlo absorb all the good stuff from his food - especially fats and proteins. Because Arlo’s pancreas is clogged with mucus, digestive enzymes don’t make their way from his pancreas to his digestive tract and so he cannot absorb these nutrients from his food without creon. We give it with apple purée (swipe to see!)

The co-amoxiclav (the creamy looking one) is the antibiotic that Arlo is on for the cough he developed about a week ago.

The vitamins (orange and white ones) are to give Arlo additional D, E, K and A vitamins as he does not absorb these fat soluble vitamins and so needs them to be supplemented.

The salt is added to Arlo’s food when the weather is hot. Normally, salt is carried to the skin by perspiration. Once the skin is cool, the salts are reabsorbed into the body. In people with cystic fibrosis, the salt is not reabsorbed and remains on the skin. As well, the body has difficulty maintaining its normal internal salt levels, especially in hot weather. People with CF are prone to heat-related illnesses and must stay well-hydrated with drinks that contain electrolytes when outdoors in hot weather. Hence in the last video I rush off to give him his beaker of water! 😅

Happy lunchtime! 😁

Arlo’s Army: We Won’t Stop Until CF Does

There’s no cure for CF yet. Even with groundbreaking new treatments, daily life for people with CF remains a heavy burden and many aren't eligible for these new drugs. That's why we're raising money. To fund cutting-edge research. To support families like ours. To keep pushing until CF stands for Cured Forever.

CF affects over 11,000 people in the UK — and more than 100,000 globally. It impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, turning mucus thick and sticky, and making everyday life a battle for breath.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is leading the charge to change this. They fund game-changing science, support families, and fight for better treatments, care, and — one day — a cure.

Join Arlo’s Army today.

Stand with us. Donate. Share. Fight for a future where no child has to grow up fighting CF.
