A large chunk of the mileage I am doing for LeBigJog to raise money for the CF Trust UK is being run with a buggy in tow - or rather with a buggy being pushed in front of me up and down the country roads and hills where we live! šŸ˜…

So here’s an overview of what I’ve learned about buggy running so far:

  1. Really research the buggy - And if you are on a budget there’s so many buggy running groups on Facebook where you can get a 2nd hand version of some of the more expensive models and they have been really well cared for. You are definitely only as good as your buggy so it will be worth it.šŸ™ (Thanks to Matt Bunn aka Uncle Matt for our buggy! We have the OutNAbout v4 Nipper.)

  2. Be careful about your running posture - Be super careful not to straighten your arms or arch your back over the buggy when you run. You will end up with some serious upper back/shoulder/neck ache! Try to keep arms bent with elbows at your sides and your shoulders back. And if you want to run with one hand on the buggy during easier patches of road (flat and straight bits) then make sure you alternate the arm each time so you don’t create an imbalance. šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

  3. Do complimentary weight/body weight training - I weight train around 3 times a week and do a lot of back strengthening exercises to combat any hunching over I might be doing unconsciously (good for those who are breastfeeding too!) And I do a lot of glute/unilateral work to strengthen my legs for running. Can be done with just body weight too and will be just as helpful. But this is my best tip to try and avoid injury. šŸ¤žšŸ¤žšŸ¤ž

  4. Be wary of the wind chill on your little ones face - Even on sunny days if it is quite windy then I wrap Arlo up a bit more as the speed causes some wind chill for him - and he gets rosey little cheeks some days! I also sometimes use the rain cover or the UV cover as a wind breaker. Just keep an eye on the temperature and how windy it is and then plan accordingly. 🌬

  5. Always have the rain cover with you just in case! (Especially if you’re running with a little #cfwarrior who doesn’t want to get cold or we!)🌧

  6. Enjoy it ā˜ŗļø It’s the absolute business! I love it!!šŸ’•And Arlo really enjoys watching the world whizz by!šŸ‘¶

Arlo’s Army: We Won’t Stop Until CF Does

There’s no cure for CF yet. Even with groundbreaking new treatments, daily life for people with CF remains a heavy burden and many aren't eligible for these new drugs. That's why we're raising money. To fund cutting-edge research. To support families like ours. To keep pushing until CF stands for Cured Forever.

CF affects over 11,000 people in the UK — and more than 100,000 globally. It impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, turning mucus thick and sticky, and making everyday life a battle for breath.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is leading the charge to change this. They fund game-changing science, support families, and fight for better treatments, care, and — one day — a cure.

Join Arlo’s Army today.

Stand with us. Donate. Share. Fight for a future where no child has to grow up fighting CF.
